Not always, but here are some scenarios if action should be taken

if your fuse/consumer unit is showing evidence of thermal effects an upgrade should take place immediately..

if cables are less than 50mm behind a wall, with no mechanical protection and no rcd protection, an rcd fuseboard upgrade should take place

if living in a property where power/supply can be taken outside an rcd fuseboard upgrade should take place..

these are a few guidelines, which could help you decide weather to change or not, as an electrician i would like to see rcd protection in every household..

weve found that fixed RCDs are about 97% reliable. this proves if they are tested regularly. if you have fixed rcd protection, it will reduce the risk of electric shock to you and your family. it can also protect your home against the risk of fire caused by faulty wiring or apliances

An RCD, or residual current device, is a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. it can also provide some protection against electrical fires. RCDs offer a level of personal protection that ordinary fuses and circuit-breakers cannot provide.

If your not sure if you have RCD protection please get in touch, we will be more than happy to help you out..
